HelpPoint for Kids and the Zurich Golf Classic

General Charitable Organizations

For the past five years the Zurich Classic Golf Tournament has been raising money for children’s charities, $18 million to date. This year, Zurich Financial Services is contributing $95,000 to two kids’ charities, Fore!Kids Foundation and Practical Action via an online golf relay game at HelpPoint for Kids.

Go to the HelpPoint for Kids site and create a golfer. Tee off a message to up to five friends, and each one can, in turn, tee off messages to their friends. Every time players tee off a round of 18 the two charities will receive donations from Zurich. Sounds like alot of fun, I’m heading off to create my own golfer now!

Hi Everyone, tomorrow (April 25th) is World Malaria Day. Lots of organizations are taking part this year and you can help too.

Check out Voices For A Malaria-Free Future for some great information on the fight against malaria in Rwanda, as well as other advocacy projects VOICES does in Ghana, Kenya, Mail, and Mozambique. They have some great information available, including the following:

Along with basic information and how to take action, you’ll also find included at the site:

- Background on the successful Rwandan program via insecticide-treated bed nets, treatment guidelines, training community health workers and improving health facility care

- World Malaria Day PSA featuring PSI Global Ambassador and board member Ashley Judd

- Picture of Success: The Rwanda Fight Against Malaria, a short YouTube documentary on Rwandan efforts

- Photo Galley to experience Rwanda malaria control at work -

- Podcasts conducted for World Malaria Day with various experts including the Rwandan Minister of Health, Dr. Richard Sezibera and Dr. Corine Karema, Coordinator of Rwanda’s National Malaria Control Program

Malaria is how this blog got started, it’s really easy to get involved by purchasing insecticide treated bed nets, promoting education and awareness, and funding research. To donate to the American Red Cross’s effort against malaria, visit this page.

Learning Lift off in Legoland – Students in Need in Waianae

Charitable Organizations in Hawaii, Education

We received a message yesterday from the teacher, Ms. K., thanking us for our donation to the “Learning Lift Off in Legoland“. She needs lego sets for her students whom face extreme poverty out in Waianae. Unfortunately she still needs $417 to fully fund this project.

Some stats from Ms. K.

Nine-year-olds growing up in low-income communities are already three grade levels behind their peers in high-income communities.

Half of them won’t graduate from high school by the time they’re 18.

I’m hoping we can gather enough people to each donate just a small amount, the cost of one lunch, to Ms. K’s classroom. You can view the message we received here. You can also donate from that page as well. Thanks for reading!
