Sears Helps Heroes Fulfill Wishes This Holiday

Sears Heroes at Home Wish Registry offers America the chance to say ‘thank you’ and helps military families have the holidays they deserve

With thousands of active-duty military fathers and mothers away from their homes fighting for our country, Sears’ Heroes at Home Wish Registry helps to bring the holidays home for many deserving families. Many families that were helped by last year’s efforts shared their stories – this video is inspired by real letters from soldiers and their families:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqDzkjl-66I

You can help Sears as they fulfill military heroes’ wishes this holiday season by making a contribution to the Wish Registry either in-store or online at http://www.sears.com/heroesathome (donations are accepted until Dec 31). This is a great way to give back this holiday season and say “thanks” to the nation’s troops.

Sears’ Heroes at Home Wish Registry has helped more than 51,000 military families and has raised more than $12.2 million. For many, the wishes fulfilled in years past have been simple and practical, including everything from warm clothes to new toys for their children to a Christmas tree and other holiday decorations for their homes.

Please note that donations made to the Wish Registry are not tax deductible and will be used to purchase Sears gift cards that will be equally distributed to all registered families.

Toys for Tots and My Coke Rewards Points

Ok folks, here’s a simple one. Toys for Tots is feeling the pinch during these rough economic times. They’ve had a decline in gift donations this holiday season but we can change that.

The Coca-Cola Company announced an exciting national online gift drive to benefit Toys for Tots and your readers can help – without feeling an impact on their personal budget. Anyone can contribute by simply donating their My Coke Rewards points at www.mcr.com/holiday. Coca-Cola aims to raise five million points, which would enable Toys for Tots to put thousands of gifts in the hands of underprivileged kids. In addition, Coca-Cola is donating $120,000 to Toys for Tots, which will be divided among eight cities across America.

A detailed release can be found at http://www.thecoca-colacompany.com/presscenter/nr_20101208_toys_for_tots.html, including more information on the Toys for Tots partnership and the My Coke Rewards program, as well as the many other Coca-Cola holiday activities planned such as special events, product giveaways, festive holiday packaging and new TV commercials featuring the music of Train.

Let’s give a hand and donate our My Coke Rewards points to this worthy charity. We can all be a part of putting thousands of gifts into the hands of underprivileged kids. What better way to celebrate this holiday season than to help others?

Girls Clubs for Literacy with LitWorld!

Hi readers, do you remember the empty plane we worked to fill with school supplies for Iraq students (from this post)? LitWorld is at it again advocating global literacy.

This time LitWorld has accepted a challenge from Global Giving to raise $4,000 by December 22nd. With this money, five new Girls Clubs for Literacy sites throughout the world can be launched. What’s Girls Clubs for Literacy? From LitWorld:

Girls Clubs for Literacy is a project that provides literacy and leadership workshops for girls in countries including Iraq, Kenya & Liberia. We provide mentorship, health & safety information and a safe space for self-expression. LitWorld Girls Clubs for literacy create a network of girls worldwide using literacy for power and social action, and girls use their newfound skills to convey issues of health, information, safety and inspiration to other young women in their community.

Check out this video to learn more and let’s make a difference by donating here. As I write this, LitWorld has already raised $2,535 with just over 13 days to go. Let’s make a difference! Skip that gingerbread latte and drop those $5 to this worthy cause! Happy Holidays!
